Original hand color on wove paper.
Sheet size: 17 by 24 ¼ inches.

This composition serves as the formal depiction he made of both his sponsor, Prince Maximilian, and of himself to his subscribers. Bodmer, the tall figure wearing a top hat to the far right carries a satchel with his painting supplies a gun and an axe. Bodmer in the green coat and rounded black hat stands next to him. Rather than an actual historic event, it serves to represent the expedition as a whole. The clash of cultures is neatly shown.

$5500.
